crew bot vs Intercom Fin
Looking for an Intercom Fin alternative? Fin costs $0.99 per outcome plus seats. Where Fin is ahead, where crew bot is, and who should pick which.
Intercom Fin is one of the strongest AI support agents you can buy: it works across chat, email, phone and social, takes actions in your other systems, and costs $0.99 each time it resolves a conversation, on top of Intercom's seats. crew bot is a lighter Intercom Fin alternative for a small business: a website chat that answers from your own site and hands over to your team, paid for out of a flat plan, with a crew behind it for the rest of your work.
Fin's price sounds tiny. It's also a meter: the better Fin does, the more you pay. Intercom's own calculator shows a business with 200 conversations a month paying about $169 a month for Fin and one seat. Below is what Fin does, what it really costs, where it's clearly ahead, and when a simpler setup is the better buy.
What is Intercom Fin?
Fin is Intercom's AI agent for customers: it answers questions, and Intercom sells it for service, sales, ecommerce and onboarding. It runs on Intercom's own Apex models, trained on customer-service conversations, and Intercom says it averages a 76% resolution rate across more than 12,000 customers.
What it can do, from Intercom's pages:
- Answer everywhere: chat, email, voice, Slack, WhatsApp, SMS, Instagram and Facebook Messenger, plus an API. It "speaks dozens of languages".
- Take action: through Procedures it handles multi-step work, such as updating accounts, processing payments and refunds or troubleshooting, by reading and writing to your other systems through APIs, data connectors or MCP.
- Fit your helpdesk: it's built into Intercom's helpdesk, and also works on Salesforce, Zendesk, HubSpot, Freshdesk and others, where Intercom says it can be live in under an hour.
- Be tested and watched: a testing suite runs simulations before changes go live, and insights and QA tools point out trends and suggest fixes.
- Pass audits: SOC 2, ISO 27001, ISO 42001, ISO 27701 and HIPAA, with data hosted in the US, EU or Australia.
How Intercom Fin pricing works
Intercom's pricing has two parts: seats for your team, and usage, mostly Fin.
Fin: $0.99 per outcome. An outcome is counted when the customer confirms the issue is resolved, when they don't ask for more help after Fin's answer, or when Fin completes a workflow (a Procedure), handoffs included. You're charged at most once per conversation, the charge is refunded if the conversation reopens, and you pay nothing if Fin can't answer or the customer asks for a person. You can set spending limits and alerts.
Seats, billed annually:
- Essential: $29 a seat a month, shown at $19 for new customers while Intercom's 35% discount runs. Fin, the Messenger, a shared inbox and tickets, pre-built reports and a public help center.
- Advanced: $85 a seat a month. Adds multiple team inboxes, a workflow builder, round-robin assignment, a multilingual help center and 20 free Lite seats.
- Expert: $132 a seat a month. Adds SSO, HIPAA support, SLAs, multibrand Messenger and help center, and 50 free Lite seats.
You need at least one full seat. Every plan includes unlimited live chat; email campaigns, SMS, WhatsApp and phone are pay-as-you-go.
Other options: Fin on your existing helpdesk costs $0.99 per outcome with no seats, but needs a monthly minimum (Intercom's example is 50 outcomes) and a call with sales. Fin Voice is $1.99 per voice outcome, also through sales. Add-ons include Copilot, an assistant for your team, at $29 per agent a month billed annually, and Pro, which adds Operator, from $100 a month.
Trying it: a 14-day free trial with no card. Startups with under $10M raised and 15 or fewer employees can apply for a year of Fin and 93% off Intercom.
What Fin costs at small-business volume
Intercom's calculator starts with an example: 200 conversations a month at a 76% resolution rate. That's 152 outcomes at $0.99, or $150.48, plus one Essential seat at $19, for $169.48 a month. At 1,000 conversations and the same rate, the outcomes alone come to about $752 a month, before seats.
That model is fair in one way, since you only pay when Fin delivers. But your bill grows with your traffic and with Fin's success, which is hard to budget for when you're small.
What crew bot's website chat does
crew bot's Support puts a chat on your websites, answered by a bot of yours and by your team.
- One line to install. Paste it before
</body>and a chat bubble appears. Each site gets its own bot, greeting, colour and knowledge, and many sites can share one workspace. - Knowledge that writes itself. crew bot reads your site's pages (up to 150, again every week), then writes an overview of the business and 15 to 60 questions visitors ask, with answers from your pages. Your team's own answers come first, and you can add documents (PDF, Word, Excel or text) and instructions on tone.
- Honest answers. Replies stream in within seconds, in the language the visitor writes in, with the pages they came from underneath; the chat window's own words come in 13 languages, picked from the visitor's browser. When the knowledge doesn't cover it, the bot says so and offers a person; it never invents prices, discounts or dates, and never claims to be human.
- A person takes over. When a visitor asks for one, when the bot can't answer, or when it's a complaint, refund or account matter, the chat waits for your team: it shows in Needs you, sounds an alert, and emails the people who answer for that site if nobody replies within two minutes. Whoever replies takes the conversation, and can hand it back to the bot.
- It gets better. Questions the bot couldn't answer are listed with Write the answer.
- Analytics included. Visitors, visits, pages, time on site, bounce, where people came from, countries, devices, the paths they take, and how the chat did: answered by the bot alone, handed to a person, first reply time, said it helped. No cookies, and addresses (IPs) are never kept.
On cost: replies come out of your plan's AI allowance, then your wallet, and each site has a monthly spending cap, $10 by default, which covers about 10,000 replies.
One rule matters for comparing it with Fin: the website bot has no tools. It reads, replies, asks for a person and saves the details a visitor types in. It can't change an account, issue a refund or touch your systems, so whatever a stranger writes can at worst produce an odd reply, never an action. Anything that changes something is done by a person in crew bot, and the crew can draft a reply for that person to send with one click.

Where Intercom Fin is ahead
It acts on customers' accounts. Procedures let Fin update accounts, process payments and refunds and troubleshoot in your other systems, so it can close conversations a question-answering bot can only hand over. crew bot's website bot deliberately can't act; those conversations go to a person.
Every channel. Email, phone, WhatsApp, SMS, Instagram, Facebook Messenger and Slack, with one agent across them. crew bot's support is a chat on your websites, plus emailed replies to visitors who left.
A full helpdesk. Tickets, a help center, team inboxes, assignment rules, workflows, SLAs and multibrand support. crew bot's Support has an inbox with filters, notes and Solve, but not tickets, SLAs or a help center.
Proven at scale. More than 12,000 customers, its own models trained for customer service, testing and QA suites, a string of certifications and a choice of data regions. For a large or regulated support team, that matters.
It fits your current helpdesk. If you're on Zendesk, Salesforce or HubSpot, Fin plugs in without a migration.
Where crew bot is ahead
A flat price, not a fee per success. Chat replies come out of the plan you already pay for, with a monthly cap per site, $10 by default for about 10,000 replies. With Fin, 1,000 resolved conversations cost $990 before any seats.
Nothing to write first. crew bot starts from your website itself: it reads the pages, writes the business overview and the common questions with their answers, and shows the source page under each reply. Your team edits what it wrote, and anything they change stays as they wrote it.
Visitor analytics in the same place. Who's on the site now, where they came from, what they read, where they left and the paths between pages, next to the chat figures. Robots are filtered out and counted separately.
Safe with strangers by design. Because the website bot has no tools, there's nothing for a visitor to trick it into doing.
A crew behind the chat. The same workspace clears your inbox, runs routines, answers from your databases, works on your servers and deploys your apps. The crew can read the week's support figures and draft replies for your team to send.
Free to start. No trial clock and no card: Free has the whole crew, and paid plans are per workspace, from $19 a month.
